Today, and over the next few days I want to return to the place of praise and worship in my writing. I think that when we are doing not just lots of good things, but our “God thing” that it can be an act of worship. Our God thing is that place where we are called to trust God no matter what comes at us. That’s where we find our purpose. According to Martin Luther the highest form of worship is to trust God.
The daily devotion from my pastors yesterday was based on Genesis 12:10 “Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe”. God told Abram to go to Canaan and he would give him the land and increase his descendants. I doubt most of us will ever hear from God in such a direct way, or be given such incredible promises. Even so, Abram in spite of these words and promises diverted himself and his family to a “good thing” (avoiding the famine by heading to Egypt), instead of staying in Canaan, the land God had promised to give to him and his descendants where his “God thing” was to take place. Every one of us has a different God thing, a different area where we need to trust God with everything we have. This pandemic is affecting every single one of us, whether we want to admit it or not. What area have you been struggling to trust God with? Bring it to God. I find that the things that I’m struggling to trust God with right now are the same places that He’s called me to trust Him in the past and will probably be the places that He’ll bring me to in the future until I’ve thoroughly learned my lesson in trust. That’s just how God works. So today as an act of worship, I’m going to take those areas where I am having the most trouble trusting God and hand them over to Him. He knows where I’m at already, and where He’s taking me. It’s not going to be easy. But then, trusting never is. But it takes us on an adventure we could never otherwise imagine. So wherever you’re at today, as an act of worship take some time with God to tell Him where you’re at and let Him lead you slowly and surely into a deeper place of trust in Him.
“Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you”. Psalm 9:10
This is a song that I’ve found meaningful to me over the last weeks. It talks of trusting God.
